Extra OPS

There are 128 Extra Ops missions in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Extra Ops are side mission that you can do for extra rewards. They are unlocked by completing main missions. Each is numbered in the game, but that is not the order in which they are unlocked.

001 Target Practice: No Limit

Unlocked after: Contact Sandinista Comandante
This is just basic shooting practice. It is a great place to level up your weapons. There is no time limit, and you have unlimited ammo. When you are done, walk out the exit.

002 Target Practice: No Limit

This is a target range that you can move through. Targets will pop up as you walk. If no targets pop up, that means you have missed a target and should go back to get it.

003 Target Practice: Score Attack

Unlocked after: Contact Sandinista Comandante. Shooting on the firing range. Try to get as many points before time runs out.

004 Target Practice: Time Attack

Completing this challenge will get you the design specs for the M19 pistol.

010 Fulton Recovery

  • Unlocked after: Investigate the Supply Facility
  • Time Limit: 3 minutes
  • Location: Puerto del Alba
This is the first Extra Op unlocked. Snake can't be used on this mission. You must select one of your other characters. Get to the target in the corner. There is one guard near the target, and you will probably want to take him out. Walk up to the target, and select the Fulton from your item menu. Then use the action button when you see the prompt. You can then walk over to the staircase to end the mission.

011 Fulton Recovery

  • Unlocked after: Pursue the Jungle Train
  • Objective: Use Fulton Recovery to retrieve all enemy soldiers in the enemy base along Rio del Jade. Killing even one enemy soldier will result in instant mission failure.
There is a six minute time limit. Each alert is a 30 second penalty. You must capture four guards. There is also a POW in the shack.

012 Fulton Recovery

Time limit: 5 min, with a 30 second penalty for each alert.
The POW is in the northeast corner, next to the truck. Make sure you aren't surprised by the guard behind the truck.

013 Fulton Recovery

Rescue the prisoner held at the sorting shed in Bananal Fruta de Oro. 7 minute time limit.

018 Target Demolition

There are four guards in this relatively small area, so it's hard to avoid setting off alerts. You can use the machinegun in the large building to take them out, if you want a shoot-out. Remember that after you blow the target you if there is an alert you must wait until it is over before you can end the mission. If your time runs out before the mission ends you will fail the mission.

The m-60 will destroy each truck easily so use that and make sure you have enough ammo.
In the beggining aim to the far right of the road toward the mountain where the trucks first appear and go to work

028 Item Capture

Objective: Use C4 Charges to destroy the container and retrieve all items.
There are four guards in the area. Blow up the container and pick up the supplies that come out of it. Head back to where you started to complete the mission. Completing this mission will get you the PKM design specs.

029 Item Capture

You have to use C4 to blow up the crates and collect the items as you go and after you collect all the items, you head to the goal.

030 Classified Document Retrieval

Unlocked after the Rescue Chico mission. You have eight minutes to gather five documents. If you set off an alert, you lose one minute. You can also pick up the "Squares" cammo in this mission.

  • Objective: Clear the obstacle using C4 charges.
  • Snake cannot be used for this mission, you must select another character.

You will have to use stealth for this one. Go around, CQC some enemies, interrogate them about the items, and they should show up.

055 US Soldier Rescue

056 One Shot

The name of the game's "One Shot." You have to destroy 3 troops and 2 bots with one bullet from an assault rifle. If one troop or bot is still alive or functioning, you lose the challenge. Wait for all troops to be exactly within range of the three barrels and shoot the Kidnapper on the right. If you time it just right, all of them should die.
Alternately, If you can time it so that the two kidnappers are headed away from the center barrel, shoot it, and the center barrel should kill the guy in the middle, and the bots should fall down and explode, killing the other two troops.
  • You can also put in other methods of devastation if you want.

057 Paparazzi

There are about 6 soldiers present in the map. The one you are looking for is the same as them, however, he's WORKING OUT (Major hint!!!) You can find him in the outpost on the dock. There are two other missions, with the third one is with a twist. The other two have different maps attached, but the objective is the same: Take a photo of the guy in charge.

058 Paparazzi

Again, about 4 soldiers patrolling, all of whom you can tranquilize, two with decent b rank stats. One is in the front of the boathouse, tranq him, and then you need to get a picture of the "commander" while he is on the squat portion of his "workout".

059 Ghost Photography

The mission has the same objective from 57 and 58, but with a paranormal twist: You have to take a picture of a ghost. However, when you spot him, he will try to kill you, making it harder to take the picture. You will be able to see where he is floating around by using the Analyzer, then switch to the camera. There is also a confidential doc in here for the M653 and Splitter (Camo that increases camo index in places with lots of concrete). You will need to bring along a box to drop then climb on to get this camo, though. Once you take the picture, get to the extraction point.

060 Dead Man's Treasure

You will need to find the items that came from the dead soldiers and put the ghosts back into them. Then, Fulton them away and they won't bother you.

You need to shoot at balloons that are supporting troops and must not let three get past you. Use any weapon except a missile launcher. #1 targets total, and S rank can be achieved by not letting any get past you.

You need to take out missiles going toward Mother Base. On the top of the screen, there is a health bar for the base: 1 hit, 1 bar. You miss 10 missiles, you lose the challenge. Simple and easily explainable.

067 Date with Paz

-Use the comments to improve Paz's approval rating. to score 200 Paz affinity(the score necessary for an S rank), you need to use twenty flattering phrases, with 10 affinity for each phrase. you CAN re-use phrases, just not overly so. -When maxed, use the Love Box

You can use only comments as long as they make her feel happy and as soon as you killed her with kindness enough, you may use the Love Box to finish it up. The reward, well, for an S ranking, you'll have to see for yourself.

069 Armored Vehicle Battle: BTR-60 PA

Co-op is recommend for this mission. The BTR requires a lot of rocket hits to kill, so it helps to have more than one person or advanced weapons.

070 Armored Vehicle Battle: BTR-60 PA Custom

You need to bring your strongest missile launchers and need to bring all your rations because of the machine gun it has. Its strongest weak points are the tires and the gas tanks. Keep reloading and shooting at these two points until it is down.

The custom can be claimed by killing/taking enemies or by destroying it by missiles. Destroying it is a little more easier than just taking out enemies by force. With Rank 4 or higher missile launchers, you can easily take it out, but you will require rations because its main attack will easily depleat your health. Keep shooting missiles at it and you will take it out.

112 AI Weapon Battle: Pupa Type II

The first of the TYPE IIs. Its attacks are a little more powerful and can kill you in a couple hits. I recommand you bring a machine gun and a couple rocket launchers (battle suit or a suit that can carry 3 weapons can help,) and some rations. Then, while you avoid its attacks, you just do what you did on the story version: shoot its parts and AI pod. After it's almost down and out, attack the AI pod, get in, get more parts for ZEKE, and get out! It's very simple, but NOT while it's attacking!
Beware: Its shock attack: VERY DEADLY: Can kill in 1 shot or two! Avoid at all costs!
NOTE: You can also edit and put in a different method.

113 AI Weapon Battle: Pupa Custom

This is a little more stronger than the Type 2 one, however he's still easy with advanced weapons. Bring a battle suit, a machine gun, 2 missile launchers, a supply marker, a lot of rations, and others if needed. Shoot mostly at the AI Pod, but try to shoot at the other parts also. The attacks will be strongly amplified, so watch out. Pretty much just do it the way you usually do, until the Pupa is down. Then, shoot open the AI Pod, get in, take as many parts for ZEKE as you can, and leave within 1 minute. Simple and explanatory.

114 AI Weapon Battle: Chrysalis Type II

115 AI Weapon Battle: Chrysalis Custom

In this battle, machine guns and missile launchers are your best weapons, but I would use the 3 best machine guns you have and boot up the mission with them. Then, start shooting at the boss, but be prepared for missiles or a railgun shot. Your best chance you have against the railgun is going right when you start up and taking cover. If you don't see a red targeting laser, you've done it correctly. For the missiles (they are your worst enemy,) look up at the sky and watch the smoke. Wait for some of them to curve, then run forward. Sometimes, you'll be hit, but it takes timing to get it right. Keep doing this until it goes to normal mode. Run to the square temple cover and you'll notice a corner you can hide in. You can use this spot to use supply drops or rations. You'll only get hit minorly, but you'll be ok. Keep hiding until it goes back into attack mode. Then, keep repeating these steps, while shooting down some kidnappers, and pretty soon, it goes down. Shoot open the AI pod, get in, take the parts, and get out. Finally, the Crysalis is taken down for the last time.

116 AI Weapon Battle: Cocoon Type II

You may think: "But he's too big! I can't defeat him! I need a friend to help me," but he's very simple. Here are the methods* of taking him out: by yourself or with a friend. Loadout 1. Bring some heavy duty guns (Would recommend bazookas and other missle launchers, would use the Battle suit) 2. Bring all your rations, he's a bit powerful to take down and tough. 3. ALWAYS bring a support marker, otherwise you're dead meat and will be out of ammo.
Battle 1. Aim for parts and the AI pod. 2. Use support markers whenever you're out of ammo 3. Keep avoiding his attacks when you can (mostly the missles and main cannon: can be deadly)
After that, you may have a bit of ammo left just enough to take out the AI pod, get in, take parts for ZEKE, and get out and feel good for yourself (and your buddy, if you include.)

117 AI Weapon Battle: Cocoon Custom

For this custom, you will need the best missile launchers you have (rank 4 or higher.) Keep firing at the AI pod until it is down, it's as simple as that. No strategy required if you have very advanced missile launchers.
  • Add other methods if necessary or if it's too short.

118 AI Weapon Battle: Peace Walker Type II

This is a battle which is a bit hard for single players because of the final missle launch sequence that can't be stopped without advanced weapons, so you may need a buddy for this. During the Mission Prep screen, choose the battle suit (which can carry 3 weapons), supply markers (you will run out of ammo and, perhaps, rations), 2 missile launchers, 1 machine gun (for both weapons, would recommand ranks 4-5), and rations. The battle starts and you charge toward it. She might launch missiles toward you, so don't move when that happens: they won't hit you. After that, attack it however you wish. You can attack it on the AI pod single player or its body parts with a friend assisting. You will still need to hit the AI pod when you get the chance. The ways it will attack will depend if you've played the mission in the story mode. You will need to watch what attack it does and avoid it: remember, its attacks are amplified and may kill you. However, a trick you can do is when during its Freeze attack, you can charge toward it and shoot at its AI pod. The damage from the machine gun and a missile launcher will be amplified at close range. Other times, it will go back to launching a nuke and can't get close enough. That's where your missile launcher comes in. You will need to shoot the AI pod to stop it, or, if turned around, shoot the nuke's carrier. When it comes to the final 3 bars of health, that's where you may need a buddy because its going to go back into nuclear launch mode and will need to stop it in 45 seconds. Use all your missiles and ammo for this or use a buddy. Once it's stopped, just keep firing at it until it's down. Shoot open the AI pod, get in, grab the parts, get out, and watch the fireworks. Keep in note that if in 2 player mode, your buddy can shoot at the AI pod to give you more time. Now, Peace Walker is defeated... TWICE!!!

119 AI Weapon Battle: Peace Walker Custom

This is the final Peace Walker you'll battle and you'll be done. First, you'll need a friend to play with, it's twice as stronger and can be impossible to destroy. Then, shoot all over with 1 machine gun that works and 2 missile launchers, but mostly aim at the AI pod. At times, it will try to launch the nuke, but do as you do on the Type II, and it will stop. The buddy is mostly needed for this mission. If you read the walkthrough for the Type II boss, you can easily defeat it and get its parts for ZEKE. But remember, it's impossibel without a buddy, so get one if you can.
  • As usual, add any methods or tactics if not happy.
Beating this with an S rank unlocks the Bandanna which gives you Inf Ammo

120 Metal Gear Zeke - Mock Battle

This is a mission where you train against ZEKE in case something like at the end of Chapter 5 happens again. Do it however you wish.

121 Hunting Quest: Rathalos

A Sniper Tranq.You can do this two ways: You can take him out with missiles and guns or you can tranquilize him and get his skin. For the tranquization part, you will need this:
  • Pistol Tranq.
  • Rations
  • Anything that replenishes your PSYCHE
Keep shooting the tranqs at him until he's asleep. Then, you will get the S ranking and claim his skin.
  • The best way to earn an S-Rank on the Monster Hunter missions is to tranquilize them. The Psyche bar is not visible but they will go down after many rounds.
  • You can edit and put in other methods. There are other ways to take out a boss (That's why I keep writing this message.)
You should also bring along an upgraded Walkman for the Monster Hunter Missions. Play a song and it acts as a earplug from the Monster Hunter series making the roars/screech ineffective.
  • Tactics can be used for all the Monster Hunter Missions.

127 Hunting Quest: Showdown at Crater Base

This boss is a level six boss, so he'll be way tougher than he already is. But, he is doable on single player and Co-op so this can be done both ways. For equipment, you'll need this:
  • RPG 7 (rank 3 or higher)
  • A LAW launcher (rank 3 or higher)
  • All your rations (bring as much as you can, he can kill you instantly if you don't have enough)
  • Mate (you will run out of PSYCHE, so bring it)
You will not need the supply marker, the supply control panel is provided for you. The plan here is to KEEP MOVING no matter what. He will charge at you a lot and can stun you with his tail beam and spikes that come off his back and roars at them, so there's some reason. Go around in circles, firing many missiles and causing a lot of damage to him. If you run out of ammo, wait for him to stop charging at you and get to the supply panel. Once you activate it, two boxes of supplies will fall down and let them loose. Keep moving when they drop, and when he stops charging, move fast toward the supplies and keep firing. Keep doing this until he's down and you will have finally subdued Gear Rex once and for all.
